The Sportsmans Warehouse Mountainbike Challenge  has become a firm favourite on the Festival program as well as the adventure callenders in the last few years. As mountain bike routes go it is a combination of surfaces making it technical on some descents otherwise the surface is mostly jeep track. The 28km route is challenging for all - suitable for novice and experienced riders alike. The race starts about 2km up the Highlands Road, near Arabella, with a steep incline to start things off and separate the field out. From there riders go right up to the top of the valley, but before descending to Grabouw, they take a left into the prestine Kogelberg Reserve and then down some fast exhilarating twists into the Palmiet River valley crossing the Palmiet River and back towards the coast.

Here the terrain becomes a bit more challenging as this part is only used by mtb riders, so the road is rough and real. riders are now flanked by the majestic fynbos-covered Kogelberg mountains and some of the most pristine fynbos one can ever see - a real treat. And don’t be fooled, its not all downhill to the bottom of the valley - some undulating hills await, so save a bit of energy for those. Riders eventually pop out onto the main road take a left over the bridge at the Palmiet and then do a technical descent under the bridge to make sure no body crosses the tar raod for safety reasons. From her it is a sigle track for about 1.5 km with a straight race to the end at the Festival Hub. 

From here if you need a lift back to collect your vehicle at the Start point, we will have a shuttle for drivers only. Best is to arrange a drop off at the Registration/Start to avoid this. There will be food and drinks at the Festival Hub so be sure to carry some cash to be able to buy some refreshments. We also have a Croc Paddling race down the Palmiet River for those more adventurous!
